Cloverdale

About 6 kilometres south-east of Perth's CBD, the suburb of Cloverdale skirts the western boundaries of Perth Airport, so it can get pretty noisy around here at times.

But Cloverdale has its compensations. The city is close by, and it's only a couple of kilometres north to the wide and wonderful Swan River, and to Ascot Racecourse, one of Perth's two metropolitan courses.

The other, Belmont Park, is not far away either, on the banks of the Swan just over the Great Eastern Highway. Next to Belmont Park is the much-vaunted Burswood Casino and resort complex.

The operators of the casino Burswood Limited and Mirvac-Fini will spend $700 million in the first decade of the new millennium to develop a 19.1ha site adjacent to the casino. On completion, it will be the largest residential development ever undertaken by a single developer in Western Australia, and will create a new riverfront suburb only four kilometres from the heart of Perth"s CBD. Just to the south of Cloverdale is the big Kewdale rail freight terminal.
