WGAC Exhibition: Bozena Wiszniewski - Inspired by Landscape

Landscape has become a continuous inspiration for Bozena's paintings. Her artistic interpretation of the landscape is constantly changing due to the use of different materials and techniques.

When she looks around, she tries to capture everything that strikes her imagination on the spot, the light, the colours, the textures; she stores these elements in her. Then she paints from memory. Inspired by Landscape is an exhibition of two series of collages that she has created in the past few months.

Bozena's fascination with the ocean inspires her small art pieces while the large canvases are her abstract interpretations of the landscape. They depict the colours and the relationship between them. She reduces the fields of colour to forms of stripes that relate to the horizontal layers of colour she sees in nature.

Open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and prior to performances.

West Gippsland Dance Festival

The West Gippsland Dance Festival has run successfully for the past 25 years.

In that time, it has grown from being a small regional festival to a highly regarded, major amateur dance competition.

Held annually at the West Gippsland Arts Centre, Warragul, the festival is conducted in September over 10 consecutive days for approximately 12 hours per day.

Age groups range from under six to 17 and over. Sections cover classical, jazz, character, song and dance, tap, national, neo-classical, contemporary and hip hop. Dancers can compete in solos, duos, trios, improvisations, troupes as well as championship sections.

Due to the location and magnificent venue, entries are recieved from all over Victoria, but primarily the Melbourne metropolitan area, east, south and west Gippsland. The festival averages 2,500 entries each year from approximately 30 dance schools.

Warragul is situated in west Gippsland, an easy one hour drive from Melbourne. A number of attractive gardens and parks are located in Warragul, with the most scenic being Civic Park featuring a large lake, rotunda, picnic shelters, playground, walking tracks and a waterfall. Overlooking the park are the Civic offices and the West Gippsland Arts Centre.
