Scamander

Scamander lies at the mouth of the Scamander River, just 20km south of St Helens, the largest town on Tasmania's east coast. It is a popular holiday town and its beaches are ideal for swimming, surfing and fishing. The Scamander River is noted for its bream, while beach fishing and gamefishing in the deep waters offshore are also popular. Offshore, dolphins and whales in migration season can be spotted.

Scamander Forest Reserve is a scenic picnic area where you can launch a boat into the Scamander River and fish for trout and bream in the quieter stretches of the river. Winifred Curtis Reserve features an amazing variety of wildflowers in bloom for most of the year. Scamander River Cruises will also take you to the upper reaches of the Scamander River to experience the awesome beauty of a wild Tasmanian river.

South of Scamander is Douglas-Aspley National Park. This rugged area features waterfalls, pools, gorges and dry eucalypt forest with small areas of rainforest. There are bushwalks of various lengths within the park.

To the southwest of Scamander lies Evercreech Forest Reserve. This area is home to the so-called White Knights, the tallest white gums in Australia. There is a walk which takes you past these trees and to a viewpoint overlooking the tallest ones.

At Eureka Farm you can enjoy rural activities - walk through the orchard, feed farm animals, pick your own fruit or just relax and drink in the scenery.
